8-13-14
Today the class went over the rules, expectations, and grading procedures.
8-14-14
Today was the class created the website for the projects and blog and became knowledgeable in creating and modifying new pages for the website, adding text and images to those pages, and customizing the website. For adding the pages, we went to the Pages tab and created a new page with the different options. For adding text and images, we went to the Build tab and, on the left, clicked and dragged different options, such as title, text, and image, to create each page.
8-14-14
Today the class went over some more specifics of the the website creator and opened Photoshop to have a brief preview of the tools, power, ect. of Photoshop.
8-18-14
Today we went over basic keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl Backspace, Ctrl Z, etc.) in Photoshop and created four imitations of Joseph Albers. This was achieved through using Ctrl Backspace in conjunction with the rectangular marquee tool. An area was selected and filled in with that color.
8-19-14
Today we used similar techniques as yesterday to created imitations of Frank Stella, but with the grid view and the stroke tool found in View and Layer tabs respectively. However, this did differ from yesterday as instead of using Ctrl Backspace, we used the paint bucket tool to fill in selections.
8-20-14
Today we created a brush of our signature through the magic eraser tool and the brush define preset option in the edit menu. This signature was created to be used in the bottom corner of our work from then on foward.
8-21-14
Today we used layer styles, text boxes, transformation tools. For the layer styles we used pattern overlay, inner glow, Bevel and Emboss. For the Transformation tools we used skew, move, and rotate. The project was attempting to create a text that seemed to "pop" out of the page and shine with an artificially induced light source.
8-22-14
Today we downloaded images into Photoshop, changed font, used wind filter, transformed a copy of the text with the perspective and rotate, and used a different opacity eraser. This project was attempting to create a text that seemed to have icicles hanging from it and have a reflection in the water below.
8-23-14
Today we used the smudge tool, the magic selection tool, the gradient tool, and the color balancing layer adjustment. This project was attempting to create a text that seemed to be on fire with changing colors (from bottom to top) and had smudged flames.
8-26-14
Today, using different layers and the smudge tool, we created animated flames with the timeline and the animations gained with the tween option. The same process as the last project was used but this added the element of the timeline to create and animated JIF file.
8-29-14
Today, using the image size manipulation, the elliptical marquee tool, the work path creation selection, the text box, the character modifier, and, after rasterizing, the eraser tool, we created text that seemed to be orbiting the Earth. The elliptical marquee led to the basis of the work path creation on which text was typed and erased to give the "orbiting" effect.
9-2-14
Today, using the text box, the warp tool, downloading a brush, creating a work path, and stroking that patch to create a keystone text that had a stitched feel to them. The warp tool made the text into an arc the bent over the top, the work path was placed around the arced letters and the stroke path option put the stitches brush along the work path to achieve the stitched letters look.
9-3-14
Today, we did some more experimenting with the stitches look and with custom brushes, with contour drawings, modifying the brush pallet which allowed us to change the brush to make it more applicable to the stitches theme on the text. These custom brushes were made by selection with the marquee tool and pen tool to create the custom brush in the edit menu.
9-4-14
Today, we created more custom brushes with the pen tool and the define brush in the edit menu. This custom brush was created by using the pen tool to outline the brush figure and then going into the edit menu to define it as a brush. Using this we created a terracotta army by modyfing the brush with a jitter as to make it appear like the terracotta army.
9-15-14
Today, we gathered pictures and made them into clipping masks by creating a text box beneath the picture layer and, in layer options, making the top layer into a clipping mask that gave a very "postcard" feel where the coloration of the letters were portions of the image that was turned into the clipping mask. We also used the clipping mask on different letters and words, eventually pictures in pictures.
9-19-14
Today, we used the pictures of ourselves at OPI to attempt to create an "I Pod" Commercial (Which is a silhouetted image of a person doing a certain action). We used to pen tool to make a selection and fill it in with black to silhouette the object. After that was completed, we used the pen tool and the stroke option to define limbs and phalanges.
9-23-14
Today, we did more of the I Pod Commercial, this time though, I used a lander as the object to be silhouetted on a gray background. Once again, I used the pen tool to select the craft the would be silhouetted. On this one, however, I also added exhaust flames through a similar method to when we created the movie file with fire.
9-24-14
Today, we did more of the I Pod Commercial with a planet with I ORBIT. I used the magic selection tool to outline the continents and a stroke to make them stand out from the black background.
9-25-14
Today, using more of the OPI Photos of ourselves, we took a year book photo and through select, color range, selected the midtones, shadows and highlights of the image. We then used edit, fill, checked the preserve transparency box and filled it in with a different color.
9-26-14
Today, we used a similar technique as yesterday, except for this time we only selected the shadows and used different tools to color in the face with the shadow on the top layer.
9-29-14
Today, we attempted to create the same image as yesterday except instead of using the color range to select the layers, we used image, adjustments, posturization, to select the portion of the image.
9-30-14
Today, we recreated Banksy paintings on walls. We did this through the threshold option (Image, Adjustments, Threshold) and through the Filter Gallery (Filter, Filter Gallery). This worked similarly to the previous process, however, it just made the image into a supreme black and white, excluding the grays. Personally, I preferred the Threshold process as it was simply easier to access in Photoshop and had a much more simplified GUI for getting the process done.
10-1-14
Today, we took an image of ourselves and, through the Liquify Tool (Filter, Liquify), and warped it beyond recognition. Of the three images created, I used the Bloat, the Push, and the Pinch Tools. The Bloat tool zooms in on the selected area, the Push tool pushes pixels out of the way, and the Pinch tool zooms out on the selected area.
10-2-14
Today we began catch up work and began working on the vector portrait/cartoon.
1-5-15
For this semester we are expected to have 2 portfolio and 10 nine week projects. Today were are turning a skyline into a tiny planet.
1-6-15
Today, we used the Color Halftone filter (Filter-Pixelate-Color Halftone) to give an image a "Sunday Funnies" look from a newspaper with the three primary colors of pigment in small circles.
1-28-15
Notes on 3D Photoshop Video:
Write you text, go to 3D, then #D Extrusion From Selected Layer.
Coordinates of the object can be found in the properties panel when in the 3D menu.
Deformation Controls for extrusion and other 3D planar deformations .
This first selection of videos was highly informative and enjoyable.

2-5-15
Today, I finished the 3D text and Shapes but ran into an issue when I began to render the image. The issue was a failure of the postcard image of grass, which was lain flat at (0,0,0), to render the image in the negative y when the postcard was placed at (0,0,0). This was solved by moving all of my objects up until the mesh over the postcard disappeared allowing Photoshop to render the postcard.
2-12-15
Today was the "mess around" day in the 3D Photoshop in which we worked on the three dimensional soda can. I took the jpg format of the soda can label that I created before, went into the 3D workspace, selected the image layer, selected the option to create an object from a predetermined mesh (soda can), and clicked create. I then rendered the object, after finding a good angle, and uploaded it to the website.
